Gerard P. Antonellis Guest Lecture

This event is dedicated to the legacy of Dr. Gerard Antonellis who initiated and directed the Center for Technical Education from 1983 - 1992.

The speaker, Andrew Smiles, East Coast Program Officer for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will address the topic: Positive Achievements of Career Academies. This event will take place at the Minuteman Regional High School, Lexington, MA on May 8th, 2008 from 4:00-5:00pm.

The Center for Technical Education’s students will have a unique opportunity to listen to and respond to a national speaker relative to a timely and significant topic.

Students attending this lecture will be hearing information that will greatly enhance their abilities to function as an effective vocational-technical instructor. Their presence on May 8th is highly recommended.

Andrew Smiles HeadshotAndrew Smiles is a Program Officer for U.S. Programs at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he directs investments in school design and reform, as well as state education policy on the East Coast. Mr. Smiles taught high school at Colegio Lincoln in Costa Rica and directed Community Impact!, a college access program serving students in Washington DC high schools. Smiles helped start VolunteerMatch, an internet service connecting nonprofits and volunteers, where he served as Executive Officer and CFO. Mr. Smiles received his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and his Masters from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley.
