Travel and Study in China
This study in China Program for high school students is being offered by the UMass Confucius Institute and the Division of Corporate, Continuing and Distance Education. Members of the 2009 Mandarin Camp community will travel to four cities on a 16-day study tour of culture and language. Besides experiencing a full solar eclipse on July 22, we will see the major historical and ultra modern sites in Beijing. After leaving China’s capital city we will visit the Shaolin Temple in Luoyang. As well as exploring the first emperor’s tomb and climbing the sacred mountain Huashan in Xi’an, students will receive language lessons at the International College of Chinese Studies at Shaanxi Normal University. In Shanghai we will see the life and character of modern China reflected in the architecture along with the antiquities in the Shanghai Museum.
Scholarship Equivalent
Hanban, the Chinese Language Council International, will provide approximately $2600 per student for in-country travel costs. This "scholarship" has been procured by the Confucius Institute at UMass Boston.
