Certificate Program in Applied Behavior Analysis for Special Populations

This five-course graduate sequence is designed to enable students to serve as effective practitioners who can assess, design, implement and evaluate applied behavior analysis (ABA) programs by providing them with the knowledge, concepts and skills of basic ABA principles, ethical considerations, generalization strategies, and application to special populations and settings. Students will receive guided practice with each course’s content by developing a Case Study that may be course-specific, or continue across several courses.

The courses are offered live at our Boston campus and through live interactive video at selected locations within Massachusetts and in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.

Successful completion of all five courses will meet the coursework requirement to sit for the national Behavior Analyst Certification Board licensing examination.

Students may apply all 15 graduate credits earned by successfully completing the ABA Graduate Certificate Program towards a MEd in Teacher Education without licensure. Contact mary.brady@umb.edu for details.

Named Outstanding Program Award for 2005 by UCEA
The Certificate Program in Applied Behavior Analysis for Special Populations was named University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) 2005 Outstanding Program. This national award honors credit and non-credit continuing education programs for their originality, contribution to the field of continuing education, and cost effective delivery.

Program director Mary Brady of UMB’s Center for Social Development and Education reports that the 15 credit sequence "is the most direct and affordable path to professional certification offered anywhere in the country." Apparently many others agree as the program is being delivered by interactive television (ITV) to a number of remote sites, both in and out of state. John Jessoe, Director of UMB’s Distance Learning/Video Production Center, says ITV delivery "allows each student to benefit from direct contact with the instructor and through interaction with their peers." External partner Melmark New England, which collaborated on developing and distributing the program calls it "an invaluable resource for both Melmark and the practitioners who provide service."
