Using Motivational Interviewing in Dual Disorder Evaluation
This workshop is a training on how clinicians can utilize motivational interviewing during dual diagnosis assessment. Motivational interviewing aims to decrease "resistance" and assess readiness for change across the diagnostic spectrum.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the core aspects of a motivational assessment with persons with co-occurring disorders.
- Identify the most common co-occurring psychiatric disorders within the population of persons diagnosed with substance dependence.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of integrated treatment.
- Demonstrate the ability to incorporate dual diagnosis into treatment planning.
Worshop Leader: Rick Hall, MA, MSW, LICSW
Rick holds a Masters in Social Work (Fordham University – New York, NY) and a Masters in Criminal Justice (UMass Lowell) and is licensed as an independent clinical social worker. He is the Clinical Director of the Mass General Hospital (MGH) Charlestown Monument Street Counseling Center. He has expertise and clinical interest in the application of Motivational Enhancement Therapy with dual diagnosis patients as wells as training and clinical interest in forensic social work. Rick maintains a private practice in Rerading, MA. He is also an instructor at the University of Massachusetts Boston Alcohol/Chemical Dependency Treatment Services Program (A/CDTSP).
