Director/Instructors
Our instructors are professionals in the field, presenting students with a vast body of knowledge and experience in addictions treatment as well as networking opportunities for practicum and future employment. We also facilitate career prospects for program graduates through our solid working relationships with addictions treatment services, vocational services, and the recovering community at large. Graduates of our program have contributed greatly to the field and to the program’s continuing success.
- Dianne Doyle Pita, PhD.
Program Director
- Dr. Doyle Pita is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston (BA, Psychology), Loyola University (MA, Clinical Psychology) and Boston University (PhD, Psychology). She is a licensed clinical psychologist, author of several texts on addictions, and has served as a faculty member of the UMass Boston A/CDTSP for over 20 years. Dr. Doyle Pita is also an adjunct faculty member of Boston University, a Boston University post-doctoral Fellow with the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and she maintains a private practice in the Boston area.
- Dawn Marie Alexander, MSW, LCSW
- Dawn has been counseling youth and adults with mental health and addiction problems for over 15 years, and currently provides home-based and outpatient therapy to families and individuals in the Boston area who are working to overcome the effects of trauma, mental health problems, and substance abuse. She is particularly interested in the roles of identity and motivation in recovery from substance abuse. A/CDTSP instructor (online and on-campus) (Boston & Plymouth).
- Brooklyn D. Brown-Northrup, MSW, MA, LCSW
- Doctoral Candidate
- Ms. Brooklyn Brown-Northrup is a doctoral candidate at Brandeis University at the Heller Graduate School for Social Policy and Management, where she currently holds a M.A. degree in Social Policy. Ms. Brown-Northrup is also a graduate of Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington where she holds a B.A. degree in psychology (minors in alcohol & drug studies; sociology) and a M.S.W degree in social work and human services. Currently Ms. Brown-Northrup is engaged in doctoral research in behavioral healthcare services, seeking to measure access and utilization barriers with rural populations in Washington State. She is currently employed with the Veterans Health Administration - Boston Healthcare System as a clinical social worker. Previously, Ms. Brown-Northrup held the position of clinician supervisor at Wayside Youth & Family Support Network in Waltham, Massachusetts. Ms. Brown-Northrup continues to serve as a guest lecturer with the University of Tokyo’s summer program at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She also presented her research at the Annual Conference of the National Association of Rural Mental Health in the summer of 2007. Ms. Brown-Northrup currently resides with her 15-year old son in Waltham, Massachusetts. A/CDTSP Instructor (Boston campus).

- Director of Modern Assistance Programs, Inc., a full service employee assistance program; Co-Director of BC-AIM, a substance abuse program for Boston College. A/CDTSP instructor (Boston & Framingham), clinical supervisor, and program coordinator (Boston campus).
- Edward Cosgrove, Ph.D.
- Director of Research Administration, The Childrens Hospital, Boston, and formerly Associate Commissioner for Public Health, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A/CDTSP instructor (Boston & Framingham campus).
- Gillian Cox
- I’m working as a counselor at both the Center for Addictive Behavior (CAB) detoxification unit (detox) and the Salvation Army, Harbor Lights Center, both located in Boston. I work with clients who are there for a period of six months and so I am helping them through their initial stages of recovery, onward into the stages of re-integration into everyday society. At CAB, I gather information about the individual clients and assist with placement into further treatment. I am currently pursuing my LADCII through UMB. Once I have completed my LADCII, I will be qualified to work as a licensed addictions counselor. I intend to continue working at both Salvation Army and CAB and continue my online teaching. - Clinical Director, Boston–area community social service program providing therapeutic home–based services to clients involved with the Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the Department of Social Services (DSS); Substance abuse consultant to DSS. A/CDTSP instructor (on-campus Boston & Framingham and online), clinical supervisor, and program coordinator (Framingham campus).
- Judith Faberman, LICSW, LADCI
- Director of McLean Hospital Alcohol and Drug Abuse Partial and Residential Program, private practitioner, Belmont, MA. A/CDTSP instructor (online), clinical supervisor (on-campus in Boston and online).
- William Gilligan, MSW, LCSW
- Bill has a Masters in Divinity and a Masters in Social Work. He has worked with the Department of Social Services and Catholic Charities Adoption program. He is currently working at Wayside Youth & Family Support Network, Waltham. A/CDTSP instructor (Boston & Framingham).
- Rick Hall, MA, MSW, LICSW
- Rick holds an MSW (Fordham University - New York, NY) and an MA in Criminal Justice (UMass Lowell) and is licensed as an independent clinical social worker. He is an addictions therapist and clinical supervisor in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston/Charlestown. He has expertise and clinical interest in applications of Motivational Enhancement Therapy with dual diagnosis patients as well as training and clinical interest in forensic social work. Rick is also an adjunct faculty member in the Behavioral Sciences Department at Bunker Hill Community College and North Shore Community College.

- John Labaki
- John earned a Masters degree ( M.Ed.) and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study ( C.A.G.S ) in Counseling Psychology from U-Mass/Boston. John has a comprehensive knowledge ( over 23 years ) working with DMH clients some of whom suffer from Dual Disorders. John is an experienced Rehabilitation Counselor who has and continues to lead and facilitate group program in the area of Substance Abuse treatment, and coordinates rehabilitation services. He is currently employed by the Department of Mental Health at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. A/CDTSP instructor (online).

- Robert L. Monahan, PhD
- Executive Director, South Shore Recovery Home, Inc., Quincy and President, MA Recovery Home Collaborative. A/CDTSP instructor and clinical supervisor (Plymouth campus).
- David Price, LMHC, LADC I
- David has worked in the mental health and substance abuse field for the past 26 years. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. He attained his BS in Psychology from Georgia State University in 1985 and attained his Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas in 1989. He has specialized in substance abuse treatment during his entire career. His other specialties include trauma treatment, sex offender treatment, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender issues, marital/family therapy and adolescent therapy. He has gained additional skills in Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, trauma treatment, cognitive behavioral treatment and relapse prevention. He has been a college instructor for the past 17 years and has presented at numerous national conferences. He currently works as the Coordinator of Substance abuse Services at the Devereux School in Rutland, Massachusetts. A/CDTSP instructor (online and on-campus at all sites).

- Executive Director, Steppingstone, Inc., Fall River/New Bedford. A/CDTSP instructor, clinical supervisor, and program coordinator (Plymouth campus).
- Ronnee Yashon
- Yashon is a scientist and an attorney who has taught in medical and law schools in the Boston area and beyond. She specializes in medical education and has taught a number of online courses all over the country. She graduated from Roosevelt University and Loyola University School of Law, both in Chicago Illinois. Anatomy and physiology has always been a special interest of hers and she is excited to teach this course. A/CDTSP instructor (online).
- Charles Yetman, CCS, CADAC, LADC, CCJAS.
- Charlie has been with the Boston Public Health Commission, Bureau of Homeless Services over the past 18 years. He is a Certified Clinical Supervisor and Criminal Justice Specialist for the agency. In addition, he is the Director of Community Programs for men and women. Charlie is also an independent contractor for South Bay Correctional Center and has been providing services there for the past 15 years. He has served on the Mass. Supreme Court Standing Committee representing the Recovery Homes Collaborative. A/CDTSP instructor (Boston & Plymouth campus)
